Youth For Human Rights Videos

Human Rights Documentary:
I like the artistic way in which this video was made, making it an interesting video for an audience to watch and enjoy. It also makes people question the origin of their rights, are they granted to them by a higher power? or are these rights part of nature (natural law)?

No Slavery video:
This not only displays the dark tone which I plan to use in my video, it also shows the contrast between someone who is allowed these rights, and someone who is not.

Right to Asylum:
This video put alot of the audience's focus on those who are not granted this right, which is what I wish to do with my video.

Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is not just a matter of being free to share and document your opinions, but also being free to distribute these opinions through the use of media and publications. By definition, freedom of speech is the right to express any opinions without censorship and restraint. Censorship is an act of restricting the freedom of speech and press. Certain websites being blocked in certain counties are one of the common examples of government censorship. In Sudan, there are restrictions on the media coverage that displays the violent conflicts taking place in Darfur.
The Sudanese government has placed restrictions on the press coverage of the conflicts taking place in Darfur. Journalists reporting the conflicts have been detained and their works have been confiscated by the government before they can be printed and distributed to the public. Media sharing sites (such as youtube) have been banned in Sudan, for fear that journalists will display media coverage of the conflicts online. According to Human Right Watch, "Sudan's parliament should make major changes to a draft press law to ensure that it protects freedom of speech as guaranteed under the Sudanese constitution and international law". The revision of this law will grant Sudanese citizens their freedom of speech. However there is no evidence of whether or  not the government will proceed with these revisions to the Sudanese law. Petitions have been organized to put an end to the censorship, stating that the government “In the face of a unspeakably and worsening catastrophe in Darfur, the government of Sudan continues to arbitrary violate human rights with impunity and systematically subjects journalists to censorship. ”

Videos explaining the conflicts in Sudan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tKvuRZSdmc
The video explains the conflicts in Dafur and how people appear ignorant of the causes of the war and its solutions. This also compares the violence of the war to the massacre of Jewish citizens in the Holocaust.

Computer Systems

Computer Hardware
A computer system begins with the structure of the hardware, the installation of the software, the connection to the network and how it is operated by people in everyday society. The most important components of the computer hardware consist of the hard drive, the RAM (Random Access Memory), and the CPU (Central Processing Unit). The hard drive is where all the computer’s information is stored. The RAM controls the processing speed of the computer, the installation of certain types of software can cause to RAM to process at a slower pace. The CPU operates the commands that are performed on the computer, one single command causes the CPU to process it and carry it out. These components are assembled in a case, some computers carry the components behind the computer monitor. To ensure the components are working correctly within the case, a test is carried out. This test is commonly referred to as the “smoke test”, if the computer emits a burning odor, then there is a problem with one (or more) of the components in the computer’s hardware.
Computer Softeware
There are many different types of software designed for computers. Some designed for defense against computer viruses (such as McAvee and Norton), some are designed for the purpose of entertainment (movies and computer games). The most important piece of software in a computer is the operating system, which can determine the types of software which are compatible for that particular operating system. There are various types of operating systems including Linux, Ubuntu, Mac OSX, and Windows. Some operating systems (like Mac and Windows) are built in to the original computer in the process of manufacture. Other operating systems such as Linux as usually, purchased separately or downloaded. Software such as OS has dominance over the computer hardware to organize files and to organize the files separate users of the computer. Linux and Ubuntu arr designed to increase the speed of the computer (so that the computer system can operate efficiently).
Computer Network
The computer’s network is able to provide the computer with access to communication with other computers. This creates possibilities for socializing, sharing artwork and information, and doing business. The network is a vast combination of connections with other computers and are reliant other computers for the providing of information which is being passed on to other computers. Information has to travel several different networks to  provide a single computer with information. A larger file may have more fragments of information and therefore it takes a longer time for that information to travel to that single computer. Personal information about the user of the internet is accessed through TCP and IP. IP stand for the Internet Protocol. When using a computer network, the IP address is a series of numerals which give access to certain users of the internet. Like any other personal information, there could be dire consequences if it is given away freely. TCP stands for Transmission Internet Protocol, which is used to transport information through the internet for other people to access.
People and Computer Systems
People in today’s modern society are very reliant on computer systems for researching, trading and communication. However, our reliance on technology has costs as well as benefits. There are no restrictions on the information that can be distributed freely on the internet. People also need to know the consequences of freely distributing certain aspects of their personal information. The distribution of this information can lead to identity theft, stalking and being conned. There are also environmental issues with the use of computer systems as the burn fossil fuels which increases CO2 emissions. The improper disposal and damage of computers can cause the emission of toxic chemicals into the ground. Certain companies allow their customers to recycle their computers and the company provides them with a service by disposing of the computer in a environmentally friendly manner.
Conclusion:
The people of society know that the computer is a very powerful tool and that it is used often in daily life. However, few people don’t know or don’t understand how the computer is assembled so that it can perform the tasks the people often use (such as documenting and the use of the internet). The computer is a powerful machine, which continues to improve certain aspects of society everyday.

Internet Roleplay

Our class created a short video to show how data travels through the network in order for imformation to be globally distributed. We contributed to create a accurate dipiction of the internet and how imformation is transported through the various websites and networks around the world.

ICT: How does a computer operate?

In order for a computer to work, you would first require the following components:
~Motherboard
~Hardrive
~Disc drive
~Power supply
~CPU
~RAM

The Hardware of a computer operates and processes information in this order:
Hardrive -> RAM -> CPU

The hardrive is where the information of the computer files are stored.
The RAM controls the speed of the computer and the speed of the RAM is affected by the number of downloads and installations in the computer (games, movies, videos etc.). The CPU processes commands such as moving files and typing, Every single command causes a rotation in the CPU system.

Operating systems are also a important aspect of how a computer operates. Mac OSX, Windows, Linux and Ubunto are all operating systems. They affect the overall software of the computer, the computer would be deemed useless without the operating system. Without the operating system, software which gives the computer its uses (internet and word prossesing) cannot be installed and put to use. The operating system provides the organisation and the useage of the hardware and softeware.

Humanities: What makes a entrepreneur? (Wordle)

Wordle: The characteristics of entrpenurship

Final Video Evaluation

Good Points: I was able to us music which did not difer the audience's attention from the video and it was well drawn (despite the limited amount of time I was given)

Bad Points: The subtiles were in time whit the moving images, therefore the audience had trouble paying attention to the context of the video.

I felt that I had the ability to create a sucessful animation, the limited amount of time that I had remaining to create the video made it difficult for me to do so. I could have also tested the timing more throughly to ensure the subtitles would be well timed as well. If I could do this project again, I would be more decisive with the animation I plan to do and that I would use my time more wisely to create it.
